Look, I don't want to wax philosophic, but I will say that if you're alive you've got to flap your arms and legs, you've got to jump around a lot, for life is the very opposite of death, and therefore you must at [the] very least think noisy and colorfully, or you're not alive.

Are you dissatisfied with your current government?
Thinking about becoming more politically active?
Why not join a progressive marching band??

Former marching band players
should find the LMB
to be a great way to recapture
the camaraderie and enjoyment
of the marching band experience.

For musically challenged activists,
the LMB flag corps offers
a place to show your colors.

Dancers, jugglers, puppeteers
and any other performers
are encouraged to participate.

We will make a place in the band
for anyone willing to rehearse
and show up to play.

Leftist Marching Band Charter

Preamble

To bring forth an honest to goodness marching band and to produce a joyous sound and spectacle no one person could.

In the spirit of cooperation and harmony let us agree on certain principles at the outset:

All are welcome and a place will be found for all. Let flexibility be a focus so that we may enjoy without being burdened. Multiple players will allow us this and no one will have to play a gig which they do not wish to play. A quorum will be established and agreed upon. If enough players are there, we will play.

Gigs will be chosen by group consensus.

As a marching band, we are by definition acoustic. Amplifiers and PA’s shall not be used. Side projects are encouraged.

As a marching band, we are by definition mobile. Music stands and charts must not be used during performance and as little as possible for rehearsal. We must rely on memorization and ears.

Music direction will be by consensus.

Let us sing as well as play and be a chorus as well as a band.

Finally, let us agree to play nice and to enjoy spirit and the fellowship of our sound.
